Contextual Essay
The issue is political because it’s becoming more legal in some states but not around the whole United States when there are more and more people calling for a reform. “In late November 2011, the governors of Washington state and Rhode Island petioned the federal government to re classify marijuana as a drug with accepted medical issues”(Biochemical 2011). This is a problem because Marijuana is the most commonly use drug in the world, but it's still widely illegal. "One out of every 15 high school students smokes marijuana"(Nature 2005). Also Marijuana can be used as medicine. These can help medical patients deal with the chronic pain of their conditions. "The researcher found that cannabinoids produced significant improvement of tics in Tourette's disease and neuropathic pain"(Clinical Investigation, 2005). Persons are getting arrested for marijuana this only makes prisons more full and less space available for real criminals. In 2005, “Marijuana prisoners” equaled about 12.6% of those Incarcerated for drug law violations and about 3.2% of total state and federal prisoners. Compared to 2010, the number of “marijuana prisoners” had increased by about 15% (Washington, DC: US Department Of Justice, October 2010). The goal of legalization is not to make arrests easier, but rather to make our communities safer by regulating this substance. Regulation allows us to take it out of the market, controlling it and better to keep it away from the young people. Controversy surrounds the legalization of marijuana as it becomes more and more useful in the U.S. Marijuana should be legalize for medical purposes, more available space in prisons for real criminals, and government can make money from it.
The effects of this issue are innocent people losing their lives due to the drug war. Mexico has the main power of drugs in the United States; this means that most of the drugs come from Mexico. The situation in Mexico is in bad conditions due to the cartels fighting for power. If the United Sates were to legalize marijuana these cartels would not have any illegal drug to sell and that will leave them with out work. Like said before the goal of legalization is not to make arrests easier, but rather to make our communities safer by regulating this substance. Regulation allows us to take it out of the market, controlling it and better to keep it away from the young people.
The multiple perspectives are that marijuana does not kill brain cells; also there has never been a case of lung cancer or disease from marijuana use. For more than 4,000 years, cannabis has been one of the most widely use medicines a research has shown that each year 400,000 people die from tobacco which is legal, 100,000 people die from alcohol each year, 20,000 people die from all legal drugs each year, 15,000 people die from illegal drugs each year, 500 people die from aspirins each year and marijuana has 0 death when its illegal (Clinical Investigation 2005). This shows that marijuana is not as harmful to use compared to alcohol and other legal drugs there for it should be legalized like alcohol, and tobacco.
The solutions that are currently being use to solve this problem is that is illegal to have or to distribute, also if said by a doctor you can have medical marijuana but only with doctor’s note. These solutions are not being effective because marijuana is the most common use drug all over the world. Also people get marijuana with out a doctor’s note. When people do not know what they are smoking since dealers do not know what they be selling. Regulation allows us to take it out of the market, controlling it and better to keep it away from the young people.

Contextual Essay
The marijuana issue is political because states in the U.S. are legalizing
marijuana but to a certain extent. "In late November 2011, the governors of
Washington state and Rhode Island petioned the federal government to re classify
marijuana as a drug with accepted medical issues"(Biochemical 2011). The only
problem is that why hasn't all the states in te U.S. tried to legalize it like
California did? Just legalize it but to an extent to where people wont go crazy
over it because its legal. Marijuana can also be used as medicine. The
government just wants to make money from the prisons that people are going to
because of smoking marijuana.
The people that have been affected by the marijuana issue are innocent
teens."One out of every 15 high school students smokes marijuana"(Nature 2005).
They are being incarcerated at a young age, and that affects them when they want
to apply for jobs. They are not going to be accepted because they have a
criminal record for having marijuana in there possession. Marijuana should be
legalized to keep teens out of prisons, and so they could be able to get a job
to be able to support there family.
The thing that people say about marijuana is that it kills brain cells and
it gives you lung cancer. But thats not true, marijuana does not kill brain
cells. There has never been a case of lung cancer or disease from marijuana use.
There has also not been any reports about any person who is a marijuana smoker
that has died because of smoking marijuana. So marijuana should be legal because
there is no proof marijuana could kill a person.
The solutions to marijuana is to make it legal. No not just to legalize
it so all the pot smokers could be happy and smoke all they want but for
medicinal purposes. If legal, you could only receive marijuana if you have some
sort of doctors note saying u need to smoke marijuana. Also marijuana could be
used to make clothes and paper. Making paper out of marijuana is safer for the
environment because people wouldn't have to cut trees to make paper anymore.
They could just plant marijuana plants because marijuana plants take less time
growing than trees do. So legalizing marijuana could also help
environmentally.
